Where is the Julia West House?

522 SW 13th Avenue – 2 blocks south of Burnside. In the heart of the West End Neighborhood near Jake's, the Crystal Ballroom and I-405.


What does the Julia West House do?

We provide Hospitality, Connections, and Opportunity for residents of downtown Portland.


How does JWH help people?

By providing a safe, supportive and welcoming environment, living the principles of individual dignity and respect and assisting those seeking to connect to resources to help make their lives work.


Do you help with employment?

We provide referrals, assistance with applications and writing resumes. We also havee mail and messaging service.


What are some volunteer opportunities at Julia West House?

Providing hospitality and a social contact, tutoring in G.E.D. and literacy, and a variety of administrative tasks.


Is GED free?

Yes. And the GED and Literacy programs are  one-on-one tutoring.


Who pays for Julia West?

Julia West is funded primarily through donations from individual and businesses. First Presbyterian Church provides the building and and 20% of the operating budget. JWH does not receive government funding.


Why do you have paid staff members?

Our staff members are here to provide recognition and continuity for our guests, consistent application of policies and expectations, and knowledge appropriate procedures.

A place where those who need a hand up can regain their independence, and make their lives work. We are committed to providing a place of socialization and service that is safe for people in recovery. Your support helps make Portland a better place for all of us.
